To me, Thursdays are a tease to Friday. Because Thursdays are Friday’s Eve, on Thursdays, I usually feel like I’m almost to the weekend, almost ready to flop onto the couch knowing that I can sleep in the next day if I want to.
Yesterday though was one of Brooke & I’s networking events’ Christmas parties. There was pizza and lots of people to chat with and we had a great time. Before it started though, I hadn’t realized that the location of the party was only about 15 minutes away from the psychiatric hospital that I currently work at full-time so I ended up getting there about 30 minutes early. What did I decide to do, then? Listen to a podcast in my car, ready to jot down notes or any ideas of inspiration that may come along.
The podcast? How I Built This, a live episode with guest Emily Weiss, founder of the makeup company Glossier (which I absolutely love, by the way). Listening to the full podcast made me love the company even more but the last few minutes really stuck with me. When Guy Raz (the host) asked her what advice she would give to a new entrepreneur, she said something along the lines of, “Just do it….starting a business is kind of like dating. It can either turn into a good date or a good story.” This! This can be applied to so many other areas of life besides just entrepreneurship: trying something new or starting a conversation with a stranger, to name a few. It was so inspiring and exactly what I needed to hear before going into a Christmas networking event.
We’d love to know: How can you apply that quote to your own life?
